Dr. Mauricio de Maio

Mauricio de Maio, MD, ScM, PhD is one of the world’s leading plastic surgeons and is an expert in facial fillers. He received his Diploma of Medicine and his certificates of Medical Residency in General Surgery and Plastic Surgery from the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo. He was recognized as a Specialist in Plastic Surgery by the Department of Plastic Surgery of the Brazilian Medical Association and by the Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery. He earned his Master of Medicine and his Doctorate in Sciences from the School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo, and is registered with the Regional Council of Medicine of the State of São Paulo, Brazil. He is also a member of the International Society of Aesthetic Plastic Surgery, in the U.S.A. He was a physician in the Plastic Surgery Discipline of the University of Medicine of São Paulo until 2002.

Dr. de Maio is medical director of Clinica Dr. Mauricio de Maio in São Paulo, Brazil. In addition to managing his private practice, Dr. de Maio continues academic pursuits and is the co-author of internationally-acclaimed medical textbooks, including: The Male Patient in Aesthetic Medicine (Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg, 2009), Botulinum Toxin in Aesthetic Medicine (Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg, 2007), Injectable Fillers in Aesthetic Medicine (Springer-Verlag Berlin Heidelberg, 2006, 2nd edition (2014)). These works have been published in English, Spanish, Portuguese, Korean and Japanese. Dr. de Maio also contributed to the Aesthetic Medicine Compendium (Roca São Paulo, 1st edition (2004), 2nd edition (2011)). He has published numerous articles in scientific journals and contributed over 50 chapters in other text books. Dr. de Maio has been featured in consumer magazines in countries including Brazil, Taiwan, UK, France, Korea, Turkey, Italy, and Poland.

He is a recognized Consultant in Plastic Surgery, Cosmetics, Aesthetics Medicine and Laser since 1997 and has been an instructor in training courses of Collagen, Hyaluronic Acid, Chemical Peels, Botulinum Toxin and laser procedures since that time. Internationally known as a powerful and elegant educator, he is sought after to present scientific papers, facilitate scientific debates on aesthetic medicine, plastic surgery, and laser therapy. He has developed an assortment of educational DVDs for healthcare professionals to further the education of facial aesthetics. 

As an international speaker, Dr. de Maio is continually called upon to deliver educational programs. He is actively involved in research, teaching in international training courses and conducting master-class workshops in approaches and techniques for facial enhancement by volume restoration throughout the Americas, Europe, Asia-Pacific and Africa. He has trained over 14,000 HCPs all around the world. The countries he visited were Canada, U.S.A., Mexico, Dominican Republic, Venezuela, Argentina, Portugal, Spain, France, Italy, Germany, Switzerland, Great Britain, Belgium, Benelux, Austria, Denmark, Hungary, Ukraine, Czech Republic, Monaco, Russia, The Netherlands, Sweden, Poland, Greece, Turkey, Israel, Lebanon, South Africa, U.A.E., India, Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore, Philippines, Hong Kong, Taiwan, South Korea, Japan, China, Australia and New Zealand. In 2014 he has visited 25 cities in 17 States within the USA (FL, GA, TN, NC, VA, PA, NY, MA, MI, IL, MN, CO, AZ, CA, NV, WA and TX). In 2015, he is scheduled to visit 8 countries in the EU, 5 in Asia, and 33 cities in 21 American States (CA, NV, HI, TX, FL, WA, OR, OK, UT, IL, KS, MO, AZ, OH, CA, TN, MA, NY, PA, MD and NC).

Awards

2002: "Antônio Prudente" award granted by Sociedade Brasileira de Cirurgia Plástica (Brazilian Society of Plastic Surgery).

2000: Honorable mention granted to the author of a paper on the relationship between Telangiectasia and Fotoaging - "Relação entre Telangiectasias e Fotoenvelhecimento", plastic surgery branch of instruction at FMUSP - Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo).

2000: Honorable mention granted to the author of a paper on smoking and sun exposure against facial wrinkles - "Tabagismo e Exposição ao Sol x Rugas Faciais: Estudo Comparativo de 119 casos", a comparative study of 119 cases, plastic surgery branch of instruction at FMUSP - Faculdade de Medicina da Universidade de São Paulo (School of Medicine of the University of São Paulo).

1999: "Nelson Piccolo" Award, granted to the author of the best free theme on treatment of post-burn hyperchromic lesions in adult patients - "Tratamento das Lesões Hipercrômicas Pós-Queimaduras em Adultos", Sociedade Brasileira de Queimaduras (Brazilian Society for Burn Injuries).

1998: Award for best free theme. Work: "Aplicação de X-ADN em Rugas Faciais e Sulco Nasogeniana: Análise de 30 casos" (Application of X-ADN in Facial Wrinkles and Nasogenian Sulcus: Analysis of 30 cases), Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Estética (Brazilian Society of Aesthetic Medicine).

1997: Award granted for the presentation of the work "Resurfacing Facial com Laser de CO² para Tratamento de Rugas Faciais" (Facial Resurfacing with CO2 Laser for Treatment of Facial Wrinkles), Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Estética (Brazilian Society of Aesthetic Medicine).
